ERITH PARK is the new title for the old Larner Road Estate. It is situated off North End Road. It consisted of seven high rise blocks & a block of maisonettes. They were built in 1964 and it is now time for a change.
The big knock down was started by an event, Demolition Day, on 5th April. It was attended by the Deputy Mayor of London, other local dignitaries & residents. I read an excerpt from a poem especially commissioned for the event. At the end of the reading, the “nibbler” started on the first block. Which was not as dramatic as imploding, which could not be done, as it would effect nearby blocks still standing.
To date four blocks have been knocked down, thus ending the first phase. There is now a vast empty space with all sorts of machinery and lorries at work, getting ready to start the new build. It is an exciting time. Can not wait for the finished article.
